El Mawwal: an Egyptian form of a long sad musical epic

The artist Raafat Yosry, the founder of El Leil Wel Mawwal Group, studied in the Institue of the Arabic Music and the Conservatoire. Then he joined the music syndicate and the National Group for Arabic Music.

Raafat Yosry travelled to Europe, Canada and several Arab countries, till he finally settled for a while in the Unites States of America where he presented Arabic Music shows until he was titled the singer of the Arab community in the United States of America.

Raafat Yosry formed El Leil Wel Mawwal Group after his return for the United States of America. The name is a reference to "El Mawwal" which is the principle characteristic of the authentic singing that specializes the Egyptian art, therefore its value cannot be denied, has to be focused on and revived.

El Leil Wel Mawwal group presented special shows on the small stage in the Cairo Opera House, the Republic Theater "El Gomhoreyya", El Seheimy House, El Harawy House, El Amir Taz Palace, Talaat Harb Culture Center. The group aims at reviving known artists who influenced the art scene with the magnificence of their works and creations, whether by being composers
