Poetry Reading with Adel Karasholi
Sunday, 29 January 2012, 7pm
Goethe-Institut Cairo (Library), 5 Sharia El-Bustan, Downtown, Cairo
The Damascus-born poet Adel Karasholi, who has been living in Leipzig, Germany for 45 years will read a selection of his German and Arabic poems. Mr Karasholi, who is in town to take part in the panel meeting of the jury for the German-Arab Translator Prize, is one of the most important poets born abroad writing in German. He writes poetry and essays, as well as translating prose, poetry and drama into both languages. In 1992 he received the Art Prize of Leipzig and in 1992 the Chamisso Prize. In his works he tries to build a bridge between orient and occident and tries to come to terms with the question of what and where one's home is.
The event takes place at the library of the Goethe-Institut in Downtown.
